Every record is compiled from the public filings of the state agency that regulates oil and gas in that state. Nothing here is modelled or purchased.
| State | Agency | What we take |
|---|---|---|
| Texas | Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) | Wellbore records, lease production |
| Oklahoma | Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) | Wellbore records |
| Kansas | Kansas Geological Survey / KCC | Wellbore records, lease production |
| New Mexico | NM Oil Conservation Division (OCD) | Wellbore records, well production |
| Colorado | CO Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) | Wellbore records |
| New York | NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) | Wellbore records, well production |
This is the part most well maps quietly get wrong, so it is worth stating plainly.
New Mexico and New York report production per wellbore. Those figures are reported here exactly as filed.
Texas and Kansas report production per lease, not per well. A Texas lease ID
such as TXLO10188397C163 identifies a lease, not a wellbore. Where a lease has a
single wellbore, the lease total is that well's total and we label it exact. Where a lease has
several wellbores, we divide the lease total across them — that number is an
estimate, and every page that shows one says so. County, formation and operator
totals are unaffected either way, because the parts always sum back to the filed lease total.
Oklahoma and Colorado production is not currently attributed at well level.
